1. Learn to sleep with earplugs. Road noise travels far and a lot of RV parks are near interstate highways.
2. Don’t pack more perishables than you can eat before parking the RV dry for a few days. Pork chops for breakfast, yum!
3. Try not to think about the fact that there is a large child hovering eight feet above you who could roll off any minute!
4. Bring paper plates for when water is too precious to waste on washing dishes and for when you’re stopped for lunch by the side of the road.
5. Bring clothes you really like. You’re going to be seeing a lot of them.
6. When opening the overhead storage, be prepared to duck or catch something. What is it they say on airplanes? “Contents in the overhead compartments may shift. Use caution when opening.”
7. Try to eat in shifts, so you can share the dining equipment. Cut down on water usage and effort!
8. Ex Officio travel underwear are one of the world’s great inventions. They dry really fast. You’ll never need more than two pairs of underwear again.

Dear Daria,
Great advice on the undewear and clothes, I am already in the clothing “comfort” mode for travel and camping. Not happy to hear about the noise level in an RV since my hubby’s snoring is already a consideration for me….sounds like you all are having fun. Have you done any of the driving? I drove a big station wagon pulling a sports car in pieces to CA, but that was years ago. I am hoping my eyesight and dexterity hold out for our future tripping. Have a great Memorial Day on the road!

Hi,
I did drive. It reminded me of driving a Rider truck back in the day when such a truck would hold all my possessions and those of my friends as well. It’s nice to have the backup camera on the RV so we can look at our bicycles every once in a while and see that they’re still there.
