La Four à Sel

Posted by Sierra

For those of you who anxiously await our Best of the Trip, Leg 2 (Europe), here is a sneak preview of one winner:

Winner! Best Overall Accommodation: La Four à Sel (“The Salt Oven” in English), outside of Aubas, France. B&B. Run By Dave and Brenda Archer, a friendly English-speaking couple, La Four à Sel is a family place. It is alongside a river, and there are walnut trees and cornfields on the property. There is a swimming pool (piscine) and also a badminton court, a ping-pong table, and other fun game areas. They have working wi-fi (woo-hoo!). Breakfast (for us) was croissants, bread, oranges, cereal, and milk, among other things. Comfortable shower. Room is cleaned (beds made, trash bag changed). Room is sweet and simple, warm beds, closet provided, heater. Lovely patio. Beautiful river view. We had dinner on the patio one night and it was quite enjoyable. Housed in ancient yellow/white rock buildings, which form a little courtyard. ***** out of 4 stars.

Sierra – You certainly understate how much you (well, all of us) liked this accommodation, and having a large stone farmhouse and the grounds to roam around.

Ultimately it wasn’t items you would check off (good breakfast, check; clean rooms, check) but the feeling we got from the place – and the entire Dordogne region.

Well, here we are all together! And there are you in that farm to wander around in with good breakfasts and clean rooms and a wonderful feeling. We wish you were here to go to O’Shays! We had good food, beer and wine and great company, at least it seemed good after the beer and wine! No, it was fun, and we missed you! When you come back, remember to come to Colorado and O’Shays. Lots of love x 3!
