You meet the nicest people

Would you drive three hours out of your way to see this? You would if you are a Slow Traveler.
We didn’t know anything about “the world’s largest illuminated fiddle” until we saw the image on a postcard in a Cape Breton gift shop. It’s not just that we have an affection for roadside […]

Cedar Point: Roller Coaster Heaven

Posted by Sierra with additional comments from Daria

Those of you who have been to Cedar Point, Ohio, know what I’m talking about when I say it’s huge. This Sandusky amusement park holds the record for the most roller coasters in the country, as well as being the second-oldest park in the nation.
Although it […]

Beer vs. Mustard

Here we are at the S.S. Destination Dome. It’s the final round of Museum Madness and … oh! The crowd goes wild as our first contestant enters the arena! He’s strong, he’s packed with info, he lives in Potosi, Wisconsin! Please welcome … Brewy, the National Brewing Museum!
And the crowd falls silent […]

Dinosaurs and Other Prehistoric Beasts

It is easy to think that the Royal Tyrrell Museum only tells about dinosaurs. It is located in Drumheller, Alberta, which is about as dinosaury as it gets. Around town are a ton of dinos, and the world’s largest dinosaur, who is 84 feet, lives in town (more about him later).
But the […]

Raging Rapids—For Real

On June 27, 2008, we, the Hieronymi, officially went whitewater rafting on the Athabasca River in Jasper National Park, Alberta. Mom and Dad had gone before, but not I! So we got on the bus and rode to the Athabasca River.

Then we were split into groups. In our group there were us […]

Not Your Average Mall

Splash in the water, scream on a roller coaster, show off your figure skating moves, and shop! You can do all this, and much more, at the West Edmonton Mall. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, the mall is somewhere between the first- and fourth-largest in the world (due to confusion of sources, I’m not […]

Canada does not open until 8 a.m.

Don’t head out too early if you are driving into Canada from Haines, Alaska.
The border is closed from midnight until 8 a.m. Canadian (11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Alaskan time). By then we’d already backtracked to spend more time ogling a grizzly bear (photos when we get a strong enough connection to add […]

Where we are, June 11

We’re still traveling the Inside Passage on the Alaskan Marine Highway, having boarded and exited three different ferries (had to back off the second, at 1 o’clock in the morning, but survived). We’ll bunk three nights in Juneau, just below the Mendenhall Glacier, before getting on a ferry for Haines.
Photos from the first day on […]

Where we are, June 5

Smithers, British Columbia.
Yes, we’ve come a long way from Corrales, considering the motorhome went nowhere for five days.
But we’ve got a ways to go before we even turn south (let alone start thinking about Nova Scotia in July).
Fairbanks is just to the right and a little below the ‘S’ in US. Tomorrow we are headed […]

Vancouver Variety

Vancouver, British Columbia, has many places to visit. Here’s a list of some of those places. You don’t have to visit all of them, just the good ones.
Granville Island: Granville is a small island that is accessible by “aquabus” (Aquabuses are small boats that are NOT free and fit maybe 20 people maximum.) […]
