Sierra’s Birthday Surprise

‘Twas the night of my birthday
and all through the car,
not a creature was happy
not even the pappy.
The night had been one of
“No room at the inn!”
How did this start?
Oh, where to begin?!
The day before,
it was filled with glee
as we purchased fondue mix
for the birthday dinner of me.
The brewpub we ate at
had excellent food,
so I happily chewed it
and didn’t brood.
At the supermarket we bought
cake, apples, and bread
not knowing that later we would
be filled with dread.
We walked around Leipzig,
shivering along,
then we got in the car
and things went wrong!
We drove to the apartment
but tacked to the door
was a sign—in German— saying,
“We are currently no more!”
The German sign sent us
to another hotel
but there was no room;
“18!” rang the church bell.
They sent us to Etap
And filled us with gloom
Because we feared
the sight of the room.
Our non-smoking room smelled like smoke
it was tiny,
with a bathroom squeegee
and no shower curtain shiny.
There was a bunk bed
and Mom desperately feared
that I’d fall on her head
now wouldn’t that be weird!
We checked in anyway
unsure what to do,
so we went to a restaurant,
hoping the food wouldn’t moo.
Later we decided
we’d eat our fondue
in an apartment on the 4th
whoop-dee-doooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The moral of this story?
it’s okay to wail,
so be prepared for anything
and then tell the tale.
Epilogue
We did eat the fondue on the 4th, and it tasted, as the Italians say, delicioso!
