History recorded.

This photo was taken in front of the house of our friends Ron and Sue about an hour after we left our home in Corrales and stopped at their home in Rio Rancho (the adjoining city). Moments later we got into the motorhome and headed into the wind. As we continue on the trip we’ll comment more on our Itasca Navion. Lots to like, but it is small by motorhome standards and the wind — big time today, but typical New Mexico — makes driving no fun.

The slightly crazy part is that you could spend months hanging out along the route we took today — run up to Jemez Springs, visit Chaco Canyon, spend some time in Durango and the San Juan Mountains, rent a lookout tower north of Mancos, enjoy Mesa Verde . . . but, hey, we’ve done those things.

At this moment we are in Moab, Utah, next to Arches National Park, which you really need to visit. A few photos from an earlier trip are here. You couldn’t have taken those today, because it was rainy and cold.

With that in mind, here is Travel Tip No. 1: If you are visiting a location where good weather is essential,  allow yourself a couple extra days. In the case of Arches, everybody wants to go home with their own shot of Delicate Arch at sunset.
