Q: What exactly is Mount Rainier?
A: Mount Rainier is a 14,410-foot sleeping volcano. It is also a national park.
Q: SLEEPING? Isn’t it DEAD?
A: No. In fact, it can and may easily erupt in the future.
Q: How was it formed?
A: The volcano was built up above the surrounding country by repeated eruptions and successive flows of lava.
Q: Any other scary natural disasters I should know about?
A: In November of 2006, a 36-hour rainstorm overflowed rivers and changed much of the landscape. The water also damaged some roads, campgrounds, and much more.
Q: With all this scary stuff going on, what would I do and see in the park?
A: You can hike on one of the trails, see a ranger program, watch the movie, and, if you’re a kid, do the junior ranger program.
Q: You sure do know a lot. What’s the top of Mount Rainier called?
A: Columbia Crest.
Q: Are there any waterfalls? I love waterfalls!!!!!!
A: Yes, there are several waterfalls. There are also glaciers.
Q: What- iers?
A: Glaciers. They’re bluish blocks of ice and snow.
Q: How do they form?
A: When a lot of snow falls, it eventually presses against older snow, taking away air and turning it to ice. As more air is lost, the ice starts to reflect bluish light, turning to glacial ice.
Q: Say, if there’s so much ice and stuff, should it be called Mount Snowier?
A: (sarcastically) Ha ha. Very funny, Lloyd.
Q: My name’s Q, Dexter.
A: That’s A to you, Lloyd (The two start fighting.)
