Where we are, June 5

Smithers, British ColumbiaSmithers, British Columbia.

Yes, we’ve come a long way from Corrales, considering the motorhome went nowhere for five days.

But we’ve got a ways to go before we even turn south (let alone start thinking about Nova Scotia in July).

Fairbanks is just to the right and a little below the ‘S’ in US. Tomorrow we are headed toward the water and Prince Rupert, where we’ll get on a ferry that takes us up the Inside Passage.

For those of you who are “Simpsons” fans, shortly before we got to Smithers we passed through Burns Lake. We are staying just west of Smithers in a motorhome park called “Glacier View,” because . . . you can probably guess. Although it was overcast most of today, it began to clear off about 8 p.m., so here’s a photo of the glacier, the mountains, the house across the road, and an idea of what we have left before the ferry.

Oh, and one more thing, the residents of Smithers are — we wouldn’t make this up — referred to as Smithereens.

    Hey Daria, Stan & Sierra,
Your trip looks fabulous and your blog is nifty. Good photos, too! Thanks for sharing your adventures with the rest of us. I know they miss you at the library, Daria.
We just got back from a 3 week trip to Europe. Great time was had in Austria, where my large family wined and dined us. We saw the King Tut exhibit, lots of wine country, visited our family’s summer homes in Carinthia, walked down memory lane in Vienna (where I grew up),and had time to take lots of photos too. Our trip to Prague was so-so. Very dirty, crowded, and mercilessly tagged. Don’t go there in the summer!!! The architecture is gorgeous and the beer excellent. Just way too many tourists and those who prey on them.
    Be safe and enjoy yourselves.
    Fondly,
    Toni

Thanks for the information, Toni. We’ll be in Vienna in November (finally found a way to put my Hilton points to good use), and Prague around then, also Cesky Krumlov and Plzen.
